Health, Safety & Inclusion Policy

SportUP runs adult social sport, and these rules keep everyone safe and welcome. They apply to players, spectators, and our referees, umpires and staff.

Pregnancy

Playing while pregnant is your decision, not ours. We will never exclude you from a competition because you are pregnant.

• Talk to your doctor or midwife first, and follow their advice.
• Let your Sports Manager or umpire know if you would like them to keep an eye out for you.
• You play at your own risk, the same as every other participant.
• If you would like to stop, pause or transfer your registration, contact us and we will sort it out without a penalty.
• If you work for us and you are pregnant, talk to your manager. We will adjust your duties in line with your medical advice.

Blood

If you are bleeding, you have to come off the court. This is not negotiable, and it is standard across every sport.

• Play stops and you leave the court straight away. It is a free substitution, so your team is not down a player.
• Your wound has to be cleaned and fully covered before you can return.
• Any clothing with blood on it must be changed. You cannot return in a blood-stained uniform.
• Our staff will clean blood off the court, ball or equipment before play restarts.
• The referee or umpire has the final say on whether you are right to come back on.

Infectious illness

If you are unwell, please stay home. One night off beats infecting your whole team.

• Do not play or spectate if you have a fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, or an obvious contagious condition such as conjunctivitis, school sores, active cold sores or ringworm.
• Open wounds, weeping sores and skin infections must be fully covered before you take the court.
• Do not share water bottles, mouthguards or towels.
• Our staff clean shared equipment such as bibs and balls.
• Our referees and umpires are told the same thing. If they are sick, they do not turn up.
• If Queensland Health has a public health direction in place that affects our venues, we will follow it and let you know.

Discrimination and harassment

SportUP is for everyone. We have a zero tolerance policy on discrimination and harassment.

• No one is treated differently because of their race, colour, national or ethnic origin, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, relationship status, pregnancy, age, disability, religion or political belief.
• Slurs, unwanted physical contact, and abuse of players, spectators or officials are never acceptable and will get you removed from the venue.
• Serious or repeated breaches will end your registration with no refund.
• Report anything to your umpire or Sports Manager on the night, or email team@sportup.com.au.

Reporting an injury or incident

Tell your umpire or Sports Manager on the night so an incident report is filled out, even if you feel fine and want to keep playing. You can also report it yourself at sportup.com.au/report.
